BALTIMORE COUNTY RENTAL INSPECTIONS

Are you a Baltimore County Landlord or Property Owner?

In order for you to receive a Rental Housing License from the Baltimore County Office of Code Enforcement you will need the following:

· A Baltimore County Rental License Inspection Sheet completed by Vision Property Inspections.

· A completed Carbon Monoxide Alarm Verification Form

· Completed Lead Inspection Certifications, if the property was built before January 1, 1978.

Vision Property Inspections will inspect the following:

A. Electrical wires are not visible in living areas.

B. Hot and cold running water is present in the kitchen and each bathroom.

C. Plumbing fixtures do not leaks below sink and all toilets flush.

D. Sleeping areas in the basement must have a basement window with minimum 5.5 ft opening with sill height 44 inches or less from floor OR basement door with thumb turn dead bolt.

E. The property has an operable heat supply system.

F. Railing is present for interior and exterior steps with more than 3 risers.

G. Carbon Monoxide Detectors are properly installed and in working order on every level of the property.

H. The property is free of health and occupant safety threats. 

I. Smoke Detectors are properly installed by way of hardwired & battery backed interconnected and in working order. Note ALL detectors must be approved by a recognized testing lab such as UL.


Single Family Home

1. A hardwired smoke detector with a battery backup must be located in the corridor or hallway outside of sleeping areas.

2. Basements must have hardwired smoke detector with a battery backup and must be interconnected to the smoke detectors outside of the sleeping areas.


Homes with 2 or 3 Apartments

1. A hardwired smoke detector with a battery backup must be located in the corridor or hallway outside of sleeping areas.

2. Basements must have a hardwired smoke detector with a battery backup, but only has to be interconnected to the smoke detector on the first floor.


Homes with 4-6 Apartments

1. A hardwired smoke detector with a battery backup must be located in the corridor or hallway outside of sleeping areas in each unit.

2. No smoke detector is required in the basement for homes with 4-6 apartments.


All completed Baltimore County Rental License Inspection Sheets are accompanied with time and date stamped photos of the front and back of the property.
